Buildings

The buildings are sited on the former tennis courts and vacant ground next to the existing quarters. They comprise: a 13-storey block for sisters' quarters

at present ten- storeys with provision for a further three floors to be added at a later date; an additional block of seven storeys for nurses; and a three-storey extension to the nurses training school.

Reinforced concrete framework with brick panels was used for the structures. They stand on spread reinforced concrete pad footings and no piling was required on the rocky site.

External walls are generally finish- ed in shanghai plaster, cement painted.

Internally all rooms have emulsion painted plaster walls and either p.v.c. tile or teak block flooring. Toilets and bathrooms have porcelain tile walls and mosaic tile floors.

The construction time for these buildings was 23 months.
