TRACTOR
Maximum Drawbar Pull
of 72,000 lb.
THE
Allis-Chalmers
HD-16DP
crawler tractor is now being produc- ed for export at the Group's Cusano plant, Milan, Italy.
It is powered by a 250 max, h.p., six-cylinder, naturally aspirated 844 cu. in. diesel engine. Rated horse- power is 194 at 1,750 r.p.m.
A combination of modulated clutch, power shift transmission and single stage torque converter are all controlled by a single lever. There

are two speeds forward and two re- verse. Located between the engine and the torque converter, the modul- ated clutch is a multiple plate, hy- draulically controlled and oil cooled unit which is automatically governed by the power shift lever from zero to full engagement. Thus it permits en- gine power to be divided between track drive and engine-driven equip- ment at any ratio, without disengag- ing transmission. It allows engage- ment of the transmission clutch packs under no torque load, eliminat- ing friction and shock.
Weight of the HD-16DP is 35,700 lb. Maximum drawbar pulls are 72,000 lb. forward, and 75,000 lb. re- verse. Dozers available include straight, angling, tilt, U, or semi-U blades, either hydraulic or cable- controlled.

RIPPER
Can be Adjusted on the Move
A RIPPER-SCARIFIER attachment that can be mounted on most wheel-type power units, rubber-tyred dozers or crawler equipment, is announced by Le Tourneau-Westinghouse Co., 2301 N.E. Adams Street, Peoria, Ill., USA.
It has an articulating tool bar which allows easy surface penetration and permits the operator to "seek" the most efficient draft angle and con- tinue to make adjustments in the angle of engagement while on the
move.
Through the prime mover hydrau- lic system. precise depth as well as tool angle setting is controlled from the cock-pit. Maximum transport height is achieved by retracting both articulating and lift cylinders. The forward angle of shanks can be limited by set screw adjustment on stop blocks so that the operator need not "seek" the proper draft angle on each run.
Using up to a maximum of nine ripper or scarifier shanks, the model offers penetrations of 151⁄2 in. by the rippers and 5 in. by the scarifiers. Close shank hole spacing of 101⁄2 in. increments enables the operator to select the shank spacing and number of shanks, either odd or even, to best suit his specific job.
The hydraulic system is designed for up to 2,000 p.s.i. working pres- sure (3,000 p.s.i. shock pressure) and up to 25 gallons per minute supply. Hydraulic hoses
all two-wire braid and those connected to the low- mounted articulation cylinders are

WASTE PUMP
Sharp Blades Mangle Obstructive Debris
THE new Essick model 3A03 waste pump is powered by an 8.25 h.p. air cooled engine.
Built to pass solids of 11⁄2 in. diameter, the pump has a non-clog- ging impeller and an end plate which is easily opened for maintenance. Sharp blades on the back of the im- peller mangle highly obstructive de-

bris, but if a solid does jam the centre of the impeller it is possible to detach the impeller cover, remove the ob- struction and replace the entire unit in a few minutes.
The impeller is semi-open and is made of nickel cast iron; the wear plate is made of steel and is replace- able.
The makers are Essick Manufac- turing Co., 1950 Santa Fe Avenue, Los Angeles, USA. Their agents in the Philippines are Co., Manila.

am-
DEVELOPMENT of a versatile phibious vehicle for dry land and muddy surface use has been complet- ed by Ishikawajima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan.
The vehicle consists of a water- tight body and four rotors with spiral fins, and is designed to be driven through propelling power of the spiral fins on the rotor. The vehicle can manoeuver on water, be driven forward or reverse and can move sideways to left or right by changing the direction of each rotor.
Specifications of the vehicle are: Length 5.2m.: width 3.4 m.; height
