row areas, the material being excavat- ed by means of three 2 cu. yd. face shovels and transported to the dams in sixteen 16 cu, yd, rear dump trucks along specially constructed haul roads.
The material is then spread by bull- dozers into 9 in. layers and consoli- dated to approximately 6 in. layers by rubber-tyred rollers on the clay cores and vibrating rollers on the shoulder and transition zones of the dams.
A fully equipped soils laboratory on the site keeps a continuous check on all fill materials. Drilling and cement grouting of the rock underlying the core of the dams is being carried out, which with a concrete cut-off wall in the dam foundations, will ensure an effective water barrier to possible seepages below the dams.
To control excessive floods in the Jor reservoir after impounding, a con- crete siphon bellmouth spillway, 150 ft. high and 125 ft. top diameter, cap- able of discharging up to 39,000 cusecs. of water through the spillway tunnel, is under construction. The flood water will then pass through a stilling basin to break up the force of the flood discharge before joining the Batang Padang River downstream of Jor dam.
A reservoir outlet controlled by two 72 in. valves will be set in the inlet structure of the diversion tunnel so as to lower the reservoir level if required.
An 8 ft. wide road will be con- structed from the Cameron Highlands Road to Menglang intake over the crests of both the Jor main and Jor saddle dams.
