were certified for occupation. Of these, ten were build- ings for domestic purposes, 14 for non-domestic purposes and 47 for combined domestic and non-domestic use. In addition, the Building Authority approved the de- molition of 40 buildings.
Cost of new building work in the Colony in the month of July amounted to HK$114.448,720, while a total of $5,151,109 was spent on site formation work. In the same period, there were 101 new buildings of all types erected.
The total includes 15 factories and godowns, three offices and shops, 82 houses and flats and one other building of mixed accommodation.
TAIPEI SIGHTSEEING TOWER
A STEEL tower. 17 m. higher than the Tokyo tower and 20 m. higher than the Eiffel tower will be built in Taipei. Promoted by overseas Chinese from Malaysia and Singapore and the Eastern Enterprise Company of Taipei, the US$5 million tower will be a main attraction for sightseers. A contract has been awarded to Pacific En- gineering Co., Ltd., Japan for design and erection of the
structure.
Technicians from Japan have already arrived at Taipei to survey the site and it is expected that the engineering work will start by the end of the year.
According to the initial plan five electronically con- trolled elevators will be installed in the 350 m. high tower. The upper levels are reserved for astronomical and meteorological obervatories and broadcasting stations. The middle levels comprise a theatre-restaurant of 1,000 seat capacity and a turntable observing platform which will be capable of accomodating 10,000 people at a time. At the lower evels will be a four-storey building which will house an illuminated swimming pool, a skating rink, a 40-lane bowling centre. gymnasium, restaurants and department stores.
SINGAPORE HOTEL COMPLEX
SEOUL'S claim to be building the tallest hotel in South East Asia (the Samyang Hotel, pictured in last month's issue) was short lived. Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd. have now announced that they are to erect a 35-storey hotel complex with 600 rooms in Singapore.
Site work has started at the junction of Orchard Road and Grange Road and the building is expected to be ready in 1969. Cost of the development is estimated at M$30 million.

numerous dining rooms; banquet halls and conference rooms with a seating capacity of more than 1,000; an observation tower on the 34th storey and a revolving restaurant at the 35th level; za open air swimming pool and roof garden: a 120-unit arcade of shops; and offices for banks, travel agencies and shipping lines.
A car park for 155 cars will be located in the sub- basement with direct access to the lifts and escalators to all floors.
The architect is Mr. S.T.S. Leong.

Artist's perspective of the television studio complex to be built at Lung Cheung Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Plans, prepared by Mr. Eric Cumine, FRIBA, provide for studios, large rehearsal areas, a scenery shop, administrative offices, a canteen and restaurant. Work will begin on the site shortly and is expected to be completed within 12 months. The complex will become the headquarters of HK-TV, the 625-line television service to be introduced in Hong Kong by Television Broadcasts, Ltd.
