THE Architect, Planners and Engineers (TAPE), of Bangkok, have been named winners of the Thai Government's na- tional open competition for the design of a new stadium to hold 100,000 spectators.
They will receive 12,000 Baht (US$600) as first prize for their design of a new main stadium at the Hua-Mak sports complex on the north-eastern edge of Bangkok, which will replace the undersized National Stadium in the centre of the city.
There were eight entries for the competition, which was launched in November 1969 and closed on May 15, this year. Second prize of 5,000 Baht went to Bangkok Consulting As- sociates, and third (3,000 Baht) to Thai Architectural Consultants. The jury consisted of the National Sports Committee, the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and the former dean of the Department of Architecture, Chula- longkorn University, and the past pre- sident of the Association of Siamese Architects, Prince V.
