All the treatment rooms are provided with intercom sets for doctor/patient communication and piped music, piped medical gases and telephone services to the centre are supplied from the general hospital

Equipment

The centre contains nine protected rooms for radiotherapy work. The megavoltage area houses a 42 MeV Betatron and two 6 MeV Linear Ac- celerators. Major radiation protection problems had to be solved in relation to the Betatron room where barium aggregate walls up to a 5 ft. 3 in. thick were provided. The electrically operat ed door to this room is 10 in. thick, paraffin wax filled and weighs 11⁄2 tons.

The Linear Accelerator rooms have walls up to 6 ft. 4 in. thick in ordinary reinforced concrete. The deep therapy area houses a total of five machines, three deep therapy and two superficial therapy and the planning suite con- tains a protected room for an X-ray localisation unit.
