SOUND-LEVEL METER
Simply-operated Instrument Covers 55- to 120-db. Range
THE ACOS Sound-level meter covers the range between 55 to 120 db, and is intended primarily for the mea- surement of traffic noise levels, but is also suitable for measuring the balance of sound in public address systems, and for most other types of acoustic measurement.
Providing single-response, interna- tional A weighting, the instrument is
Acos meter
fully transistorised and powered by an Ever-Ready PP3 or an equivalent bat- tery. In accuracy and stability it com- plies with B.S.3489 and B.S.3539 over a range of tempera- tures between 0 and 40 deg. C., and its performance is not adversely affected in storage tempera- tures up to 50 deg. C.
A moving coil microphone, set in- to a recess in the top of the meter, can be detached and used with a 15 ft. long extension lead. With a metal front panel incorporating a single control knob and a clearly-marked scale, the high-impact plastic case measures 7 in. high by 31⁄2 in. wide by 2 in. deep, and the whole unit weighs approximately 20 oz. Both the body and the microphone are fitted with tripod mounts. A two-way adap- tor, enabling two
separate sound levels to be measured, can be sup- plied as an extra.
Cosmocord Ltd., Eleanor Cross Road, Waltham Cross, Herts., UK, are the makers. They are represented by George Kent (Malaysia) Ltd., Selangor, but are seeking agents in other areas.
WALL COVERING
Simulated-ceramic Vinyl Panel Has Adhesive Back
A SELF-ADHESIVE Vinyl wall cover- ing, Mosaic Adhesif, has a raised, textured surtace, designed to resemble an arrangement of mosaic tiles. It is offered in a variety of patterns and colours.

Decro-wall adhesive viny!
The 1 ft. square panels are sup- plied with a protective paper backing, which peels off easily before fixing to the wall. Patterns may consist of re- gular squares, 169 to the sq. ft., mix- ed squares and rectangles, or irre- gular pebble shapes. Colour combina- tions include pastel shades of pink, yellow, blue, green, beige or grey, mixed with white or bolder colours. The panels, which will conceal minor surface deficiencies, can be cut or bent round corners, when necessary. They are said to be grease and stain resistant, and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Larger, simulated-brick panels are also available.
The Decro-wall Corporation, 375 Executive Boulevard, Elmsford, New York, are the makers. They are seek- ing agents in S. E. Asia.
ELEVATED FLOORING
Panels Allow Easy Access To Services
A NEW all-steel floor has been add- ed to the range of Elaflor pedestal- mounted elevated flooring systems manufactured by Archibald Low & Sons Ltd., Kirkintilloch, Scotland.
Elaflor Mk12B is supported on pedestals, and can be installed with or
Elaflor modular steel flooring
without a stringer-grid framework. Principal feature of the new floor is a 24 in. square modular floor panel which is fabricated from 16 and 14 s.w.g. steel sheet. The panel has a flanged top sheet, spot welded to a pressed steel lower sheet having ra- diating stiffening ribs giving great strength and rigidity over the entire panel surface.
The floor is specifically designed to simplify the installation and mainten- ance of underfloor services. It en- ables all electrical, plumbing and other services to be laid across the sub- floor by the shortest route.
The panels will support uniform loads of 350 lb. per sq. ft. or a con- centrated load of 1,000 lb, over a 2 in. diameter area. Standard panel cover- ing is best linoleum available in 20 colours bonded directly to the panel. A moulded vinyl trim strip is incorporated in the edges of the panel.
Where panels are supported by stringers, the floor can be utilised as a ready-made air conditioning plenum, Cut-outs can be provided for damper- controlled air outlet grilles. The rigid interlocking grid system consists of rolled mild steel stringers incorporat- ing a resilient vinyl rib in the top of each stringer. The rib cushions and prevents sideways movement of the panel, and effectively seals off the sub-floor.

DUPLICATOR
Stencil Cutter Records Printed Matter and Line Drawings
CLAIMED to employ the fastest scanner yet produced, the Gestetner E.S. 455 desk-top stencil cutter func- tions electronically and accepts orig- inals up to 81⁄2 in. wide by 14 in. It can record any typed, printed, written or drawn matter as well as line illustrations, half-tone prints and well-contrasted photographs.
Compactly made, the machine weighs 63 lb., while the overall dimensions of its grey, moulded glass-fibre case are only 25 in wide by 15% in. deep by 10% in. high. The aluminium-alloy stencil drum spans almost the width of the ma- chine and is positioned behind a con- trol panel.
From left to right, the controls are: a five-point contrast control for the stencil, a power button, stop and start buttons, a meter for recording the density of the material, a contrast- control knob for the original matter, and a knob for setting the appro- priate line-scans per inch. There are three scanning rates, selected accord- ing to the type and amount of detail in the material being stencilled; they are 200, 400 and 600 lines per in... and at these settings the approximate times taken on a copy width of 81⁄2 in. are 6, 12 and 18 min. respective- ly.
The duplicator is powered by 200/240-v. supplies, and reproduction on the stencil is effected electronically.
