ROOFING
Glass Fibre Simulates Any Type of Covering
A NEW roofing technique uses resin-bonded glass fibre, moulded and coloured to simulate traditional or other roof coverings.
The method is virtually a fibrous- plaster technique applied to glass fibre. The material is resin-bonded chopped-strand mat in a 4 oz. to 6 oz. lay-up, about 3/16 in. thick. This is moulded to any design either tradi- tional or unorthodox, simulating any type of roofing materials, including slates, stonework and the Roman tiles illustrated, and even thatching.
The roofing is produced in sheets of the desired size, and is normally
Glass fibre "tiling"
supplied with 3/16 in. diameter cop- per or galvanised rod clad into the glass fibre, which is hooked back on to the rafters. The finished roof is said to be light, strong and draughtproof; it does not support bacteria and re- quires little maintenance, since dirt and bird stairs are washed off in rain. The illustration shows roofing simulating green Roman tiles, formed in 10 ft. by 5 ft. sheets, being fitted over a 5% in. thick foamed-polyure- thane underlay on a private house.

Timbrock wallboard is moisture resistant and white-ant proof. Fur- ther information is available from Mr. A.C. Higgs, general marketing manager, C.S.R. Building Materials.
SURVEYING INSTRUMENT Simple Optical Device Gives Accurate Plumbing
THE vertical alignment of any tall structures, such as high buildings. chimneys and radio towers, as well as lift shafts, bridges, etc., can be checked rapidly and easily to an ac- curacy of 1 mm. in 100 m. (1,32 in. in 325 ft.) with the Model PZL self- aligning zenith plummet.
The instrument is basically a right- angled telescope, which is set up on the ground over a reference point to give a view vertically upwards of a sighting target at the top of the struc- ture: any displacement from vertical can be read off on
a graticule. The horizontal glass cir- cle allows the ver- tical line to be checked from any angle.

a 1.3 degree angle of view, and a minimum sighting distance of 7 ft.
An optical plummet is placed in the tribrach, and used to plumb the ground reference point; it has a magnification of 2.8×, a field of view of 8.5 degrees, and focuses down to 1 ft. 71⁄2 in. When aligned over the reference point, the optical plummet is removed and replaced with the Model PZL zenith plummet, which is levelled by bubble, using the three levelling screws on the tribrach. It
is then only necessary to set a suitable scale or target at a corresponding position at the top of the structure to be checked. and view this through the eyepiece of the zenith plummet.

Portable Spray Units for Shuttering
THREE concrete mould sprays two portable and a trolley-mounted model have been designed by Por-
-
tapak Ltd., London Road, Bexhill, Sussex, UK, for use with Duckham Zedcote S.3 concrete mould dressing. Each utilises a flexible hose, lance, and jet nozzle to ensure that an even spray reaches every crevice in the mould.
The two portable sprays, IG and 2G, have pressure-resistant tanks with capacities of 1 and 2 gallons respec- tively. The 1 gallon tank is carried by means of an attached shoulder strap, the 2 gallon by a harness of knapsack type.
—
After being filled with the mould dressing from a bulk container, they must be pressurised with a built-in pump until the attached pressure gauge reads 70 p.s.i. sufficient to discharge the contents of the tanks through their hose-and-spray outlets. The third spray, 3G, attaches directly to the manufacturer's standard 5 gal- lon drum. It operates by means of a hand pump, and the drum is moved from place to place on a wheeled framework.
