way of a small yard fronting onto the roadway. Access to the Roads & Drainage Depot at lower basement level is made from the lower level of the north leg of Caroline Hill Road.
The structural system generally is of simple reinforced concrete beam and column construction with vertical reinforced concrete fins breaking up the facade into a 5 ft. 6 in. grid there- by allowing maximum flexibility in positioning of internal office partition- ing.
In elevational treatment the struc- tural members are brought out in white cement paint while window spandrels and recessed faces between windows are black. All other areas of uninterrupted infill walling have been treated with an olive green tex- tured emulsion paint. Window frames are black with opening lights only brought out in white.
Offices and lecture rooms are air- conditioned by a fan coil system with fresh air supply to each unit through metal grilles fitted in the window spandrels. The demonstration thea- tre on the top floor of the C.A.S. block has its own small plant with ducts feeding over and through the roof slab.
The C.A.S. block is served by one passenger lift and the E. & M. block by two passenger lifts and one large freight lift.
The cost of the project was app- roximately HK$10,000,000.
