ASIAN TRADE FAIR
BRITAIN
WITH a final surge of activity the site and buildings for Asia's First International Trade Fair are being completed for a grand opening on November 17.
An area of about 200 acres at Hua Mak, 12 km. from the centre of Bangkok. has been prepared and a total of 100,000 square metres of covered exhibition space is under construction, in addition to the permanent build- ings such as the International Hall. Thai Hall, Hall of Nations. Administration Building, Auditorium, cinema and restaurants.
Twenty-three countries are setting up national stands and others have reserved space in the Hall of Nations. The fair will cover all aspects of industry and commerce and is organised in three sections: Thai products: foreign products and displays by government and international organisations.
In all some 3,000 manufacturers from 40 countries will display their products during the 24 days of the fair. which is expected to attract international buyers in large numbers. Main objects of the exhibition are the promo- tion of trade co-operation and economic development, and the encouragement of new foreign investment in South East Asia.
The biggest space reservations have been made by Japan. France. Australia, Italy. USA, USSR. Britain and West Germany, who may be expected to display their latest technological achievements. but visitors are likely to focus particular interest on the industrial and engineer- ing products now being produced by developing nations such as Pakistan, India, Israel, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.
Next month's Far East Architect and Builder will review some of the products and equipment designed for the construction market. The architecture of the fair's permanent buildings. designed by Thailand's Royal Ir- rigation Department, will also be illustrated.
