NEW CONTRACTORS'
TRUCK
Maximum Power Possible at All Speeds
HEAPED capacity of a Lew earth- moving truck developed by Le Tourneau-Westinghouse Co., Peoria, Ill., USA, is 80 cu. yd. The truck, the LW 120A series Haulpak, utilises the motorised wheel and embodies a roll-out feature for easy removal of major components for maintenance.
The 930 h.p. diesel engine in this 105 ton capacity hauling unit powers its DC electric drive system which makes it possible to use maximum engine horespower at all speeds from 0 to 40 mph.
The unit is 35 ft. long, 18ft. 7in. wide and 15ft. 8in. high. It has a
wheelbase of 15 ft. 10in. The radia- tor-engine-generator assembly is
80 cu. yd. body of the LW 120A Haulpak
mounted on a roll-out sub-frame. When in place, the sub-frame is sup- ported on three-point rubber mount- ings, insulating the sub-frame from vehicle stresses and deflections.
Dual hydraulic pumps provide a total of 169 gallons a minute for body hoists, and 27 gallons a minute for steering. This enables the vehicle to dump its rated load in 18 seconds at pressures less than 1,500 p.s.i.

is highly manoeuvrable, being mount- ed on two rubber-tyred wheels.
The 2 litre four cylinder Ruston Rover diesel engine develops 60 b.h.p. at a maximum speed of 3,600 r.p.m. and is controlled by a hand-operated throttle giving a variable range from 1,000 r.p.m. Electric starting and pre-heating equipment is standard.
One end of the suction pipe is flange-coupled to the pump, the other is screwed (4 in. B.S.P.) to receive a standard suction hose. Discharge is from the side of the pump through a 21⁄2 in. sliding-stem gate valve, complete with a 21⁄2 in. instantaneous coupling. A separate diaphragm priming pump is provided, together with a tap for isolating after the priming operation.

CONVEYOR
Moves Wet Concrete at High Speed
CONCRETE can be moved at high speed and without segration, from transit-mix trucks to pour sites, by the Airplaco Vey-
Cretor introduced by Air Placement Equipment Co.. Kansas City, USA. The speed of the unit 550 ft. and per minute the patented dis- charge heads make it possible to de- liver up to 120 cu. yd./hr. Several units can be used in tandem.
The Vey-Cretor has an actual con- veying length of 32 ft. but wet
con-
crete can be conveyed up to 412 ft. (16 units in tandem) with a 60 kw generator. Each unit can incline or decline 12 ft.
At the pour site the end conveyor swivels 360 degrees and telescopes 30 ft., to provide complete coverage of the pour.
The Vey-Cretor has a 6 in. alumi- num channel frame with a troughed 16 in., 4-ply endless belt that has two wipers. Units ride piggy back.
Airplaco equipment is sold as a direct export from the manufacturers' own Export Department.
LOADING SHOVELS
Models are Faster And Carry Heavier Loads
TWO redesigned Weatherill loading shovels with two-wheel drive, the 12H.B and the 42H.B, have Orbitrol side-arm power steering, modified geometry, faster operating cycles and greater lifting capacity.
On the 12H.B two 4 in. dia. rams operate the side arms pivoted in front of the cab, while two 4 in. dia. scoop rams ensure faster crowd and dis- charge action; the new ram geometry,

and the design of the enclosed walk- through cab, also improve visibility.
A Fordson 63 h.p. four-cylinder diesel fitted with power-shift trans- mission drives the shovel through two forward and reverse gears. Maximum speeds in each gear, both forward and reverse, are 7.3 and 17.9 m.p.h.
The lifting capacity of the 12H.B is 10,000 lb., payload is 3,200 lb., and the machine's standard 1 cu. yd. bucket, which has full crowd and an outside width of 6 ft. 81⁄2 in., can be
