units set out to an attractive pattern.

As the major accommodation areas would require to be sub-divided by the various organisations, and the tenants on the first floor in particular, it was considered desirable to plan to a standard unit or module to allow as much flexibility as possible.

The air-conditioning supply outlets and the light fittings are designed as

composite units, with the telephone outlet points on the floor on the same vertical plane. Return air is accepted by continuous slots on the external and internal wall lines of the office accommodation, so that the floor areas are as free as possible for sub-division, controlled only by the ceiling panels of 2 ft. x 4 ft. 3 in.

Partitioning is standardised and demountable, with hollow steel electrical section framing to carry conduits, and can be secured at ceil- between the ing level by recesses ceiling panels.

Natural rubber has been incorpor- porated in the construction where appropriate, in carpet underlays, floor tiles and mountings and insulators for machinery, ductings and conduits.

Concrete Frame

Sound insulation has been provided for in partitioning insulated with glass wool, floors of hollow block re- inforced concrete surfaced with very heavy rubber tiles, and in the case of the meeting room of the Rub- ber Producer's Council, double glazing of the windows and parti- tions.

The reinforced concrete framed structure is supported on reinforced concrete piles, and the 9 in. brick in- fill is faced externally with bush hammered granolithic rendering in grey and black and to pattern.

The free standing ground floor columns are faced in terrazzo of black marble chippings, while the ground floor false ceiling is of wood wool slabs suspended in aluminium framing, treated with black Colorcrete and roller painted white to give a highly textured surface.
