BEFORE the end of 1967. the Por-
tuguese Colony of Macau will have a casino complex to rival the best that Las Vegas, Monte Carlo or the world can offer.
An architectural fantasia topped by Chinese-style roofs and shining lanterns will house on the one site the gamut of entertainments and luxuries for the Eastern circuit tourist. from Japanese baths to cinema spectaculars.
Architect, Eric Cumine, FRIBA, has created, within a budget of HK$35 million, a modern hotel and amusement showpiece. The complex combines buildings of circular. rectangular and elliptical plan shape which, with their rooftop lanterns and bright floodlighting will become at landmark by day and night for visitors sailing into Macau.
The commanding island site of 31⁄2 acres stands on the harbour front between Avenida Dr. Oliviera and Avenida Dr. Rodrigues and close to
the famous statue of "Amaral", who guards the south corner.
Within this area will be built a 516-room hotel, with lounges and the usual adjuncts (304 rooms will be erected in the first phase of the de- velopment and 212 rooms in the second phase); a casino of four floors, with 6,000 sq. ft. of gambling space on each floor; eight eating places of various ambiance and atmosphere; shopping arcades and a department store: Japanese and Sauna baths; a swimming pool with cabanas: children's fun and play areas, a boite-night club: and દ 1,600-seat supper club for stage and cinema spectaculars. Rock gardens and coloured fountains will be laid out in the open spaces.
A syndicate known as the Sociedade de Tourismo a Diversoes de Macau is carrying out the project. It is headed by two Hong Kong businessmen, Mr. Stanley Ho and Mr. Henry Fok.
