"The whole building has been design- ed to be supported around the service elements comprising the lifts, the bath- rooms and the chutes connected by glass screen wall, exactly detailed so that the glass butts directly on to the concrete core and not to the aluminium frame. By this means the continuity of the curvature of the core is seen un- interrupted and the vertical expression is accentuated. The overall design pre- sents a mobile form as in a mobile sculp- ture, there being a constant change in the elevational view,"

The development, for which piling has been completed, will take two years to finish. It will be 25 storeys high and will contain 69 split level apartments

and three-storey split level penthouses. A roof garden and swimming pool is included in the scheme.

The design, consisting of a three- prong block arrangement, without party walls separating the individual units, ensures maximum privacy for the residents. Although there are three units on each floor, each unit is served by one lift opening into a private land- scape garden lobby which leads to the entrance hall of the unit itself.

Each apartment has three bedrooms, three round bathrooms and a guest room-cum-library, with guest toilet in the entrance hall. In the original design the large circular living/dining room opened on to a wide balcony, but this

balcony has now been incorporated in- to the living area with windows en- circling to make an unusual elliptical shape.

All the apartments are air-condition- ed with package units installed with built-in ducts concealed over the sus- pended ceiling.

Reinforced concrete will be used for construction of the cores, slabs and beams, the cores being designed for slip-form construction. Bronze anodis- ed aluminium curtain walling will be used externally, the glass being bronze tinted. All reinforced concrete walls and cores will be fair-faced and finished with an anti-fungus water repellant.

Futura is sited at Leonie Hill Road within a suburban residential area close to Orchard Road. It is estimated to cost some S$10 million.
