VIBRATING SCREED

Two Beams for Striking Off and Finishing

A ONE-MAN Vibrating screed for striking off concrete slabs has been developed by Stow Manufacturing Co., 627 Shear Street, Binghamton, New York.

The Model PSB Porto-Screed has an adjustable amplitude feature and vibrates at a rate up to 4,300 vibra- tions a minute. The vibration is transmitted to the beam and in turn to the concrete causing the fines to rise so that one man can pull it and strike off the slab of even very stiff mixes quickly and smoothly.

By using the adjustable amplitude feature, the amplitude of vibration can be dialed at any position from "high" to “low” by turning the eccen- tric on its axis and locking it in place. Also by using the throttle the speed can be adjusted and with these two adjustments the right amount of vibration can be obtained to suit the particular job.

The frame of the Porto-Screed is designed to be quickly clamped to two 2 x 4 beams. The first beam strikes off the concrete and the second beam gives the concrete a final finish. For lengths longer than 14 ft. 2x6 beams are usually used and for lengths 20 ft. or more two Porto- Screeds are mounted on one pair of beams. The unit is powered by a 3 hp gas engine.

LORRY LOADER Hydraulic Crane Lifts 3 Tons

MADE to fit most road vehicles, the Search-Teha 3000 lorry-loading crane has a maximum capacity of 3 tons at a 5ft 3in. radius or 1 ton at 14 ft. 9in, and can slew through 193 degrees.

The unit, which weighs 2,094 lb., fits centrally behind the cab for

maximum stability, while support is given to the chassis by two hydraulic support legs. A main boom. 12 ft. 3 in. long, pivots on the pillar and carries a hydraulically- folding jib incorporating a manually- operated extension; both the boom and the jib are raised by double-acting

rams.

To achieve a working radius of 22 ft.. a special jib, replacing the standard model, can be fitted while an alternative integral jib can achieve a 16 ft. 3 in. radius by a hydraulical- ly-controlled telescopic action. Fitted as standard to the crane, a hydraulic winch carries 75 ft. of % in. cable.

The controls, duplicated on either side of the vehicle, consist of one lever each for the stabiliser legs and the boom, jib and slewing actions, but additional levers may be installed for optional features such as a hy- draulic grab with pneumatic suction pads. The hydraulic system works through a piston pump driven by a p.t.o.

The unit is marketed by William

G. Search Ltd., Whitehall Road, Leeds. 12. UK, who are not repre- sented in S.E. Asia.

WELDING SET

Gives Substantial Saving in Oxygen

WITH a weight of less than 3 lb for the complete outfit, the Thames light- weight cutting and welding set has many applications in heating and ven- tilating engineering.

It has a lever type cutter which will cut steel cleanly from 1/32 in. to 2

in., while the welding torch is provid- ed with seven nozzles to weld up to 5/16 in. plate with full penetration.

Features of the set are the rapid interchangeability of the welding and cutting heads on a common shaft, and the use of a special injector which is claimed to give a substantial saving in oxygen over conventional welding cutting outfits.

The manufacturers are Messer Griesheim GmbH, 6 Frankfurt am Main, Hanauer Landstrasse 300, Postfach 2606, Germany. Agents in- clude: Behn, Meyer & Co. Ltd., Kuala Lumpur: Hoechst Chemical Products Ltd., Hong Kong: Hoechst Philippines Inc., Manila; Haan Thai Trading Ltd., Bangkok.

EXCAVATOR

First Bucket Wheel Machine from British Company

WEIGHING 24 tons, the Mavor E10 bucket wheel excavator is mounted on a four-wheel drive chassis and is propelled by a 100 b.h.p. hydraulic motor. The main frame slews through 270 degrees and carries the diesel engine which drives the hy- draulic pump.

Power is transmitted through a semi-automatic gearbox and two speed transfer gearbox to heavy duty axles. Under site conditions the steering axle is at the rear. There is a triple braking system.

The ladder boom carrying the digging wheel and 30 in. conveyor can be raised hydraulically until the centre of the 8ft. diameter wheel is 18ft. above ground level. It can also be depressed to provide digging to a depth of 12 ft.

The bucket wheel carries five buckets, each with a volume of 3.48 cu. ft., fitted with detachable cutting edges and bolt-on teeth. Maximum
