TILE CUTTER

Makes Raked or Square Cuts

THE Woodhouse Cornish tile cutter can deal with quarry tiles up to 1 in. thick, as well as vitrified floor tiles and coved skirtings. It makes raked or square cuts and trims to within 1⁄2 in. of the tile edge.

Two

The cutter, manufactured in three sizes for 8, 9 and 12 in. tiles, is based on a square frame of welded steel angle, with a movable pressed-steel platform set across the centre. metal uprights, fixed to the sides of the base running parallel to the plat- form, support a steel bridge piece which is pivoted on one upright and fixed to the other by means of an adjustable tension screw; a piece of square-section tubing with a tungsten- carbide cutting wheel at the end pro- jects downward from the bridge over the platform.

To use the cutter, a tile is position- ed on the platform under the cutting wheel and the tension screw on the bridge is tightened until the wheel just bites into the tile's surface. Then, by turning a crank handle on one side of the frame, the platform and tile

can be moved back and forth under the wheel until the tile snaps neatly along the cutting line.

LIGHTING FITTING

Bulkhead Unit Accepts Either Tungsten or Fluorescent Lamps

A COMPACT, square, weatherproof bulkhead fitting has been introduced for use ол outside staircases and

doorways. Called the Philips Type W4295, the standard version will accept a tungsten lamp up to 100 w., but may be adapted to take a mercury fluorescent lamp of up to 50 w.

Normally supplied with a B.C. lampholder, the Type W4295 may be used with a 60- or 100-w. tungsten lamp, but an E.S. lampholder, avail- able as an extra, allows an MBF U fluorescent lamp to be inserted. this conversion. remotely-positioned control gear is also required.

These 9100 Series coatings are polyamide-epoxy materials of out- standing abrasion resistance. The co-polymer system employs xylol as a solvent to achieve a firm bond to the underlying paint without causing it to "lift" from the substrate. The compounds, also resistant to che- micals, solvents and water. are available in white, tan, dark red, light green, and grey.

In addition to the recoating of concrete floors, the series is recom- mended for bare concrete, wood and steel floors, as well as ramps, deck- ing, platforms and stairways subject to heavy vehicular and foot traffic.

The coatings are marketed in double-compartment containers, the fitting measures approximately 7 in. contents of which are intermixed one square and may be surface-mounted, hour prior to use. They are tack- projecting 44 in., or semi-recessed, free after 1 to 2 hours; light traffic

Its body, of 18 s.w.g. aluminium. stove enamelled matt black, contains a detachable one-piece white reflector which holds a white porcelain lampholder of the type required. The reflector is secured by two mounting brackets at opposite corners of the body, and the diffuser, pressed from clear glass, internally ribbed and sandblasted, is fastened by two stainless-steel screws that thread into caged nuts the mounting brackets, pulling the diffuser into a gasket to form a weatherproof joint.

RUBBER SEALANT

Retains Bond at High and Low Temperatures

A TWO-COMPONENT elastomeric, black compound that produces a 30 to 50 mil thickness in one application and cures at ambient temperatures above 40 degrees F. is being produc- ed by Toch Bros. Inc., 212 Fifth Avenue, New York 10010.

The membrane becomes a che- mical resistant rubber sealant com- pound that remains serviceable in temperatures of 40 deg F. to 175 deg F. without loss of bond or elas- ticity. It resists water and alkali or acid solutions and remains inert to other natural elements and bacterial attack. The makers are not repre- sented in S.E. Asia.
