fittings are oiled teak with stainless steel working surfaces; the floor is covered with red quarry tiles and the entire wall surface is white glazed tiles. Drawers are painted in bright primary colours and the ceiling is a deep cerulean blue. The total effect is one of warmth and brightness, the materials and colours used eliminat- ing any feeling of coldness and sterility.

The kitchen opens onto a wide bal- cony which can be used as a drying area. Vertical aluminium louvres have been fitted to the balcony and can be adjusted to control the sun penetration.

The three bedrooms have been cleverly designed to fit the triangular shape of the site. The problem of early morning sun penetration has been considerably reduced by lower- ing the head height of the windows in all walls facing east. The rooms are fitted with built-in cupboards and neatly detailed teak fixtures including desks and bookshelves.

The two bathrooms have received the same attention to detail as the kitchen. Glazed tiles, a rich blue in colour, have been used on the floor; the walls are covered with white glazed tiles which have an ornate blue pattern.

Internal Finishes

The floor finish generally through- out each flat is composed of teak block strips laid in two foot lengths to form a random pattern, an effec- tive departure from the normal pat- tern of 12 in. squares: skirtings are also teak; walls and ceilings are plas- tered and painted white.
