the columns; these protect the win- dows right up to the underside of the first floor canopy. On either side of the entrance doors, the local sculptor Van Lau has created two deep relief lions which are in keeping with the bank's traditional entrance.

Internally, the most striking feature is the complete absence of any columns in the banking halls. These halls have been finished entirely in marble with ventilating acoustic tile ceilings and double glazed windows with full height curtains. All the materials chosen are again in keeping with the feeling of dignity which the bank wanted to

express. Dominating the upper ground and first floor banking hall is a huge bronze and copper sculpture repre- senting the gate to prosperity which was also created by Van Lau.

The office floors have been design- ed with the intention of providing maximum flexibility to cope with the various types of interiors provided by the tenants. The ceiling suspension is designed on a 3ft. module and is exposed teak which forms the top support for any internal partitioning and also carries the modular acoustic tiles, A/C outlets and lights. Under the vinyl tile floor is a grid of p.v.c. sup-

plying both electrical and telephone services.

The airconditioning in the offices is provided by chilled water coming from the roof plant room into the service core fan room on each floor. From this fan room air is ducted into ceiling diffusers. Around the perimeter of the building, supplementary fan coil units have been designed to cope with quickly changing sun loads.

The interior decoration of the managerial offices on the 2nd and 15th floors was carried out by Pacific House Ltd. in the "International" style re- quested by the owners, using very subdued browns and greens.
