SCRAPERS

The two self-loading, elevating trac- tor scrapers, Michigan models 210 and 310, now being marketed by Clark International Marketing S.A., Benton Harbour, Mich., USA, have a capacity of 23 cu. yd. and 32 cu, yd, respec- tively.

The model 210 is equipped with 'Hydra-Ride' suspension so loping characteristics of two-axle tractor scrapers are eliminated.

Designed for large yardage earth- moving projects, the Michigan 310 is the first tractor scraper of its capacity to be entirely self-loading and equipped with the Hancock elevator loading system that insures maximum frag- mentation of material.

Both machines are equipped with a four-piece, reversible cutting edge, sliding bottom, hydraulic powered ejection, and strike-off blade that leaves material in ideal condition for compaction. Hydraulic power is also utilised to operate the multi-flight elevating system.

The model 210 elevator is 6 ft. 10 in. wide and contains 18 flights while model 310 is 8 ft. wide, con- taining 19 flights. Both units have a loaded axle weight distribution of 51 percent front and 49 percent rear.

The scrapers are diesel powered and feature an all-Clark driveline com- prised of torque converter, nine speed power shift transmission with 'lo-lo' loading speed, and planetary reduction

in the wheels. Maximum travel speed is 33 m.p.h. Brakes on both machines are air actuated.

Other features include: adjustable air-suspension seat, windshield and wiper, hydraulic power steering, horn, front lights, ripper teeth and engine compartment side panel. Optional fea- tures include enclosed cab and wiper, individual steer brakes, parking brake, retarder, and engine blower fan.

VIBRATING ROLLER

A tandem roller, Model VV2, the lightest in a series of Czech vibratory machines, is suitable for compacting park road and pavements. The thick- ness of the compacted layer varies between 200 and 400 mm.

The VV2 has a 1-m wide front vibrating roller mounted on the weld ed frame, and a similar-size steering roller at the rear. Both rollers are fitted with spinklers and scrapers. Power for drive and vibrating is provided by a water-cooled, two-cylinder Zetor 2011 diesel engine, developing 22 h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m.

The power gives the roller two speeds of 1.5 and 3.1 k.p.m. forward or in reverse and enables it to climb gradients of 1:5 with vibration engaged or 1:4 without vibration; its minimum turning radius is 3.5 m.

The driver is insulated from the vibrations, a roof also protects him from rain and sun, while swivelling seat improves his visibility for forward and reverse drive.

Manufacturers are Strojexport Ftc., Prague, Czechoslovakia.

CONCRETE RELEASE AGENT

A hydrocarbon-wax-based mould- release agent known as Century Wax Paste produces a smooth finish on moulded aqueous products such as stressed concrete. Developed from Walkers' range of industrial polishes, it also contains some natural waxes.

The paste can be applied to the inside of the moulds by brush, and buffed when dry. This produces an un- broken film which allows the moulds to come away easily without pick-up.

An advantage of the wax over con- ventional oil- and water-based agents is that it is not expressed from between the mix and the face of the mould.

Makers are Walkers (Century Oil) Ltd., P.O. Box 2, Century Works, Century Street, Hanley, Stoke-on- Trent, Staffs, UK.

ROCK RIPPER

The Mark III series parallel-action rock ripper, model V-hrp-D8H, manu- factured by American Tractor Equip- ment Corp., 9131 San Leandro Street, Oakland, California 94603, USA, of- fers controlled entry and ripping angle at any ripping depth. Swivel shank bracket mounted on inboard bearings swing a full 30 degrees to keep shanks facing into the load. Extra wide tool beam is internally reinforced to permit extreme service under the tough rock ripping conditions.

The Vyba shanks nest in live rubber blocks to cushion and absorb ripper shock, resulting in less wear a id tear on the tractor and greater rock des- truction with less tractor effort.

Twin hydraulic cylinders have chrome-finish cylinder walls and pis- ton rods and contain the latest type packing. The entire ripper assembly is built of alloy steel with replaceable bushings and wear plates at points of stress and wear.
