A CURVED flyover is to be con- structed over the proposed Waterfront Road as part of Hong Kong Government's programme of roadworks to provide on improved link between Central District and North Point, on Hong Kong Island. It will be the first three-span, curved, continuous prestessed concrete struc- ture in Hong Kong.

The flyover proper will have a length of 304 ft., with two end spans of 69 ft. each and a mid-section three- span curved continuous box beam of 50ft. +66ft. + 50ft. = 166 ft. running on a radius of approximately 90 ft.

The gradient of the approach roads is 1 in 9 and 1 in 10, respectively. Beams are kept at a constant height of 40.5 ft. throughout.

Tenders were invited by Govern- ment for construction and design of the flyover, and the contract was awarded recently to Yau Wing Co. Ltd. The total cost of the structure, including two stairs and a curved continuous pedestrian bridge, will be HK$420,000.
