LIKE other Government subsidised secondary schools, Ming Kei College, Kowloon, is built to the standards laid down by the Hong Kong Education Department. Any deviation from the standards which adds to the cost of construction must be met by the build- ing owners and because of these bud- getary considerations the school is con- ventional in its layout and finishes.
However the school includes a large assembly hall, which will be used both by the school and outside organisa- tions, and the owners, the Church of Christ in China, were persuaded to aug- ment their share of the costs by making this hall also an architectural feature of the development.
The school is located on a flat site of only 46,300 sq.ft. at the junction of Cherry Street and Oak Street, Tai Kok Tsui, in a predominantly high-rise resi- dential area. Into this area the architect
