GENERATOR
Portable unit with choice
of three outputs
the
A LIGHTWEIGHT, self-contained portable generator, known as Champ, comes in four standard ver- sions, each offering a choice of three output levels, and in a battery-charger version. Powered by a 1 h.p. petrol engine, it incorporates a 1/2 (284.1-c.c.) fuel tank for running times of up to 1 hr.
pt.
The first version of the Champ. No. H110, delivers 350 w. 230 v. a.c.. 300 w. 230 v. d.c., or 150 w. 12 v. d.c.. while No. H111 differs in that it delivers the 150-w. d.c. output at 24 v.
On No. 112 and 113, the 350-w. a.c. output is generated at 115 v., the 300-w. d.c. output at 115 v. and the 150-w. d.c. output at 12 and 24 v. respectively.
Model 114, for charging batteries, offers a choice of 250 w. d.c. at either 12 or 24 v. Mounted on a fabricated- steel base, with a red enamel finish, each model weighs only 121⁄2 lb. (5.67

kg.) and measures 11% in. long by 84 in. wide by 91⁄2 in. high (29.2 by 22.2 by 24.1 cm.). The die-cast- zinc alternator housing incorporates an integral carrying handle.

CEILING GRINDER Eliminates need for scaffolding
STOW Manufacturing Co., 627 Shear Street, Binghamton, New York, has put on the market a gas-powered ceiling grinder, model CG-10-G.
The unit is powered by a 3 h.p.
Far East BUILDER, July 1968.
CG-10-G ceiling grinder
Briggs and Stratton engine. It grinds ceilings from 7ft. to 11ft. 3in. high, eliminating the problem of providing scaffolding for a man to hand grind. Once the height is set on the ceiling grinder the operator just pushes it along cutting off form marks and grinding the ceiling smooth at speeds up to 500 sq. ft. per hr. The grinding is done by a 9 in, abrasive disc driven by a 1⁄2 in dia. flexible shaft at 3,450 r.p.m.
The CG-10-G also has a swivel top which allows grinding close to walls and other obstructions. Stow also makes an electric ceiling grinder which works on ceilings up to 18 ft. high.

ROLLERS
Two new vibrating machines from Essick
THE production of two new vibrat- ing twin-rolls, models VTR-30W and VTR-30W2, is announced by Essick Manufacturing Co. Ltd., 1950 Santa Fe Avenue, Los Angeles, USA. They are powered by 12 h.p. and 18 h.p. Wisconsin engines respectively.
The rolls on these units are 30in. wide and 221⁄2 in. in diameter. Each roll is mounted in the main frame in rubber isolators and operates inde- pendently of the other. This design
allows the maximum amount of energy to be conveyed to the soil or asphalt during the compaction
process.
Vibrating mechanism in each roll is designed so that the impact force developed is passed to the material both vertically and angularly. The VTR-30W has a frequency of 3,800 vibrations per minute with an impact force of 2.158 lb. per vibration for each roll. The VTR-30W2 has a frequency of 4,200 v.p.m. and the impact force is 2,807 lb. Total energy applied per second, both rolls, is 137 tons and 197 tons respectively.
Both units are self-propelled, with the forward-and-reverse, vibrator, and on-off switch controls at the operator handle. Flush edge rolling is possible up to 181⁄2 in. and 14 in. clearance against obstacles higher than 181⁄2 in.
Both units have a travel speed of 1 m.p.h. and both can be equipped with
Essick VTR-30W roller
a water system as an optional acces- sory for asphalt compaction.

PAVER
Lays hot or cold asphalt to a width of 28 ft.
CAPABLE of laying two lanes of highway (28ft.) in a single pass, the PF 220 paver will pave at depths of 14 to 10in. at speeds up to 140ft. per minute. It can lay hot or cold asphalt in widths from 12ft. to 28ft.
Infinitely variable speed hydraulic augers and conveyor drives provide any optimum auger operation at paving depth or width. The hopper, equipped with hydraulic folding sides, has a 16 ton capacity.
The material flow control gates are hydraulically operated from the rear of the machine. Dual control stations provide finger tip control of both paving and travel speeds and automo- tive power steering and dual hydraulic foot brakes.
A three-speed hydrostatic transmis- sion gives travelling speeds up to 11 m.p.h. There are no belts or clutches in the transmission. The screed is of universal design and can be equipped with either tampers or vibrators.
