WASTE TRAPS
Connect to pipes without special adaptors
MARLEY PLUMBING are introducing a range of waste traps each of which has a compression outlet for connect- ing direct to waste pipes of c.p.v.c., p.v.c. or copper, eliminating the need for a special adaptor.
The new range is: Tubular swivel trap - 'P' outlet with 3 in. water seal, sizes 14 in. and 11⁄2 in.; a bath trap 'P' outlet with 3 in. water seal: and 14 in. c.p.v.c. overflow bend. The traps are injection moulded from poly- propylene and are white in colour.
On the bath trap, the c.p.v.c. over- flow bend is connected to the bath overflow fitting with offcuts of 14 in. waste pipe a useful economy

DRAFTING STAND Hydraulically adjustable to any angle
BOARDS from 36 x 48 in. to 60 x 120 in. can be accommodated by a new hydraulic drafting stand manufactured by McCulloch Engineering Service 58 Parker Road, Wellesley, Mass., USA.
The stand has a lift of 20 in. Boards may be rotated 360 degrees, tilted and locked at any angle from hori- zontal to vertical.
The vertical steel guide tube is plated and polished and is enclosed

no exposed oily parts. Operating pedals are mounted close to the pedestal and a light foot pressure raises the boards. The board tilt lock is cam actuated.
Weight of the stand is 185 lb. Its base diameter is 27 in.
FIRE ALARM
Batteries take over if mains fail
IN the event of a power cut, the Waterloo Changeover fire-alarm sys- tem automatically changes from mains operation to dry-cell battery supply. An inexpensive kit, it is suitable for fairly small premises using up to six break-glass contacts.
The changeover unit is housed in a grey stove-enamelled steel case measuring 6 in. wide by I ft. high by 3 in. deep (15.2 by 30.5 by 7.6 cm.) and weighing 14 lb. (6.4 kg.). It pro- vides a maximum of 2 amp. d.c. at 9 v. from a transformer rectifier cir- cuit and, in the event of mains failure,
in a Teflon sleeve bearing. There are Waterloo fire-alarm

a changeover relay immediately con- nects the output terminals to a battery of dry cells capable of maintaining the load for 48 hr.
It is fitted with a key-operated test switch and a neon indicator lamp that is extinguished when the mains supply fails.
The red bezel of the break-glass contact is a zinc-alloy casting mount- ed on a steel box suitable for either surface or flush fitting. Inside are a pair of normally-open and a pair of normally-closed contacts; the latter, however, are held in the open position until released by the breaking of the glass. The 6-v. d.c. bells are of under- dome type.
Road and Campbell Ltd. Foundry Lane, Horsham, UK, are the makers.
FLOODLIGHT
Battery or mains operation
THE Tilt-Flood portable floodlight can be used in construction work above or below ground. It also serves as an emergency lighting unit.
It has an 8 in. diameter convex non-dazzle lens made of tough plastic and is mounted on to a plastic cover- ed spun metal lamp body, which houses a chemical- ly brightened and polished aluminium reflector.
Thumb screws allow the lamp unit to be tilted and secured in its bracket at any angle from a ver- tical up to a ver- tical down light. The bracket has a spigot for mount- ing on to a stand- ard tripod.
Tilt-Flood
Power can be from 240V or 110V mains, or from a 12V car type battery. Weight of the unit, excluding battery is 21 b. 3 oz.

VERMICULITE
Acoustic treatment for ceilings
AUDEX is a fire-proof acoustic anti- condensation treatment consisting of foliated vermiculite and mineral bind- ers. It is incombustible and provides good thermal insulation and fire pro- tection.
The material is applied by a special spraying process which gives the fin- ished surface an attractive textured appearance and should ensure the maximum sound absorption. The standard thickness recommended is 38 in. to 1⁄2 in., although lesser thick- nesses can be applied with some re- duction in sound absorption.
