station has a capacity of 750 KVA serving general lighting and power load, air-conditioning equipment, lifts, kitchen equipment, etc.

Fluorescent lighting fittings used in the various buildings are of the specified low noise level type, com- prising 65 watts. 40 watts, and 20 watts units.

Solid state lighting control equip- ment is provided in all of the four television studios. Studio No. 1 has 40-6 KW silicon controlled rectifier dimmer units and 2-10 KW non-dim circuits. The powder patch panel is capable of grouping 290 lighting outlets on the dimmer and non-dim circuits.

The new television complex has four studios, three continuity suites, four telecine chains, four video tape recorders, two subtitling units and one cinerecorder, together with all the associated facilities, integrated into a centralized control and switching system, located in the master control suite. The electronic system uses the most modern techniques and equip- available. All equipment is transistorized to provide for maximum stability and efficiency with a mini- mum requirement for electric power and maintenance.

Radio House

The second phase of the centre, now under construction, comprises a six-storey building housing the tech- nical and administration facilities for the Department of Radio and a 1,000- seat auditorium linked by a common entrance hall and foyer.

Radio House will contain 21 stu- dios embodying all facilities necessary for efficient multi-language pro- gramme production and the editing of

prerecorded material. The day to day administration staff will be located in the tower office floors while the tech- nical and production areas will be provided in the lower three floors.

The problems of noise and vibra- tion control within the building are considerably reduced by the location of all heavy mechanical and electrical supply equipment in the Services (Plant) Building.

Mass in the form of concrete strục- ture and masonry walls provides the main source of acoustical isolation for critical rooms and areas.

In the studio suites, editing suites, editing rooms auditoria, control rooms, and equipment rooms, correct acoustical environment is achieved by the use of various reflecting and ab- sorbing treatments applied as a finish to the floors, walls and ceilings.

Radio House will contain the fol- lowing studio facilities:

Eight continuity suites which will combine the functions of news broad- casting and the link between produc- tion origination and the transmitters; five talks suites fulfilling small produc- tion requirements; six drama suites; one sound effects suite, and two edit- ing suites.

A 250-seat auditorium with the in- corporation of a control room and two narrator studios, will serve as an audience studio.

The large 1,000-seat auditorium is considered by the Department of Radio to be the central facet of the

entire Radio complex. The comple- tion of this portion of the project will provide not only permanent accom- modation for the Radio Malaysia Orchestra but also serve as the first sizeable auditorium in the immediate region that is acoustically treated for musical presentations.
