and at different levels. The work- shops and storage areas (where scenery and props are prepared) are placed immediately south of the of the studios in order to permit entry of props, scenery and stage hands through entrances at this end.

Performers, having completed their make-up and properly costumed, wait in nearby lounges and "green rooms" before entering the studios through sound locks at the north end of the studios.

The studio control rooms, from where the producers, script assistants and technicians control the produc- tion of a show are aligned along the north end of the studio separated by sound-proof windows and walls. Sound-proof announce booths are

positioned immediately adjacent to the studio control rooms.

Within each studio is a walkway grid suspended 16ft. above the floor comprising continuous electrical trunking ducts at 6 ft. centres both ways from which the television lighting is hung overhead and adjusted by lighting technicians. Television lighting is controlled from control

rooms above the audio and video control rooms.

One hydraulic goods lift (4500 lb. capacity, 50 f.p.m.) the largest and second of its kind in Malaysia, carries props and scenery between dead stor- age, live storage and the studios. One electric dumbwaiter connects film processing, TV news, and film editing on three floors for rapid de- livery of film for processing.

Electrical Services

Two 11 KV, three phase service supplies are obtained from the Na- tional Electricity Board network. These are stepped down to 3.3 KV by two 3,750 KVA Pyroclor (non-in- flammable liquid) filled transformers from which primary power supplies at 3.3 KV are distributed to the various unit substations in the building complex.

The two main transformer outputs are interconnected with a normally open bus-tie circuit breaker. Partial

back-up capability is available from either transformer to provide uninter- rupted broadcasting services in the

event of failure on one transformer. Provision has been made to enable conversion of the present self- cooled transformers to forced air- cooled types to meet major future load growth in the centre.

There are three unit substations. The plant building substation has a capacity of 500 KVA serving various air-conditioning pumps, fans, lighting load, etc. The television house substation has two 1000 KVA transformers fed by two separate 3.3 KV feeders, serving general lighting and power load, air-conditioning equipment, studio lighting equipment, and broadcasting electronic equip- ment. Outputs of the two substation transformers are also interconnected with a normally open bus-tie circuit breaker.
