Tower flats clad in glassfibre panels
THE London Borough of Paddington has what is reputed to be one of the world's first high-rise residen- tial blocks to be clad entirely in glassfibre/polyester
moulded panels.
Glassfibre wall panel
Measuring about 60 sq. ft., the panels are formed on a 1,200 ton hydraulic press. Windows are snap- ped into position in the opening provided in the moulding and a gasket seals the edges.
The manufacturers, In- dulex Engineering Co. Ltd., Luton, Beds., UK, make the panels by a continuous process, which although flow-lined and automated, makes the panels rapidly to specified sizes and in a variety of colours and finishes.
The panels, for exterior use, are composed of a light-weight cellular cement core faced both sides with fully compressed and autoclaved asbestos-cement with an asbestolux edge fillet. The product is said to have the non-combustibility and durability associated with traditional construction.
