The sixth and seventh floors will accommodate the new studios of Radio Hongkong, work on which is due to be completed shortly, and of which we hope to give a complete description in a subsequent issue.

The entire top floor of the building is taken up by the Divisional Manager's residence. This apartment will be the subject of a separate write-up in the near future.

On the roof of the building are located an emergency radio transmitter room and four lattice steel framework radio masts for the transmitting and receiving antennae.

Two staircases and two fully automatic lifts are located at the rear of the building, as are all the staff washrooms and lavatories. In addition, there is a small general purpose cargo hoist which is also fully automatic, and a tiny electric message hoist which will soon be installed to serve the telegram receiv- ing and despatching sections.

We felt sure that a description of some of the apparatus and machines which receive and transmit their messages will be of intense interest to our readers, and through the courtesy of the management of the company we were permitted to take a series of photographs which graphically illustrate the intricacies of the system. A great deal of the apparatus was built locally by the Cable & Wireless engineers and the entire

installation carried out without a moment's interruption of the service, including the transfer of that part of the equip- ment which was housed in the Post Office Building prior to the completion of Electra House.

We gratefully acknowledge the assistance we received from Mr. H. S. Bindon, Installation Engineer of Cable & Wireless Ltd., and from Mr V. N. Dronnikoff of the architects' office in the preparation of the descriptive and illustrated matter in this article.
