board in the window panels, and wash- ed granolithic finish to paving.

Internally, in areas other than the studio suites, the walls are plaster or wood, the ceilings primarily lay-in panels, and the floor covering vinyl- asbestos tiles.

In the studios the walls are plaster ed brick or concrete with acoustical panelling applied to the surfaces to achieve the required sound environ- ment. In the studios other than the audience studio the acoustical treat- ment is primarily carpets on the floors, 'picture' panels on the walls - which are movable and are of three types of absorbency: low, mid and upper fre-

quency, thus allowing some adjustment - and plaster ceilings with a suspend- ed wood slat diffuser ceiling carrying the lights and AC diffusers.

The audience studio has vinyl- asbestos floor covering with a carpeted seating area and open-weave jute car- peted walls with fixed diffuser panels and a shaped plaster diffusing ceiling.

Radio Hong Kong's new logo, de- signed as a wall plaque for the new headquarters, but also to be used on the station's microphones and letter heads, is worthy of mention. Shown on page 15, it depicts on an almost solid ring the letters RHK linked to the Chinese characters for Radio Hong

Kong. The design was executed by Mr. Bob Hookham in consultation with the architect.

Contractors

Yue Shing Construction Co. were the main contractors. The contract commencement date was February 5, 1968 and RHK had to vacate Mercury House by the end of March 1969. This required substantial completion by the end of January 1969 to allow all radio equipment to be installed and tested to meet an 'on air' date of March 3, 1969.

Principal sub-contractors for the building were:
