SEALANT

Repairs hairline cracks in concrete

A SEALANT which permanently re- pairs hairline cracks in concrete sur- faces has been developed by The Monroe Co. Inc., 10780 Quebec Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

The two-component catalysed epoxy system. called Zelox crack filler, is designed for use on horizon- tal or vertical masonry surfaces, in- doors ог out. High resistance to acids, alkalis, oil, and grease make the compound suitable for repairing pavements or concrete floors subject- ed to chemical attack. In addition,

the crack filler withstands impact and abrasion from pedestrian or wheeled traffic.

Unlike ordinary repair materials, which remain on the surface, the sealant penetrates the crack to achieve a complete and permanent bond, thus preventing moisture seepage. The grayish-tan compound blends in with the surrounding area.

Easily applied with a trowel or three-inch broad knife, Zelox requires no primer or thinner and dries to touch in six to eight hours and is ready for light traffic after twelve hours.

ROOFING FELT Waterproofs roofs insulated with polystyrene

FASTER and more accurate water- proofing of roofs where extruded polystyrene board provides the thermal insulation is now possible using Thermobase Sheet, roofing felt manufactured by D. Anderson & Son Ltd, Stretford, Manchester, UK.

Polystyrene has a much lower melting point than that required for bitumen used in built-up roofing and would be seriously damaged using normal laying techniques. The 'mop and flop method has therefore been used, the base layer of felt being mopped with hot bitumen and flopped onto the polystyrene, having cooled in the process.

On site this method is slow, expen-

sive in bitumen and labour and inac- curate since it is difficult to line up the felt. Pre-felting polystyrene boards in the factory by the same technique is again expensive and all joints between individual boards have to be taped on site.

Thermobase Sheet is a glass based bitumen roofing felt coated on the underside with a special bitumen. It is used as the base sheet of a multi- layer system and laid cold on to polystyrene board. When subsequent layers of felt are rolled into place the heat of the bonding bitumen melts the bitumen coating on the base sheet providing a safe bond between the in- sulation and the base sheet.

FLUORESCENT LIGHTING

Metal reflector unit accepts disposable paper panels

A REFLECTOR unit which utilises disposable paper reflector panels has been developed for single- or double- lamp fluorescent-lighting fittings. De- signed so that old panels can be slid out quickly and replaced with new ones, it is said to lead to considerable savings in maintenance costs.

Each unit consists of a light metal frame, finished in white paint and held
