HO MAN TIN DEVELOPMENT

WORK will start in a few months

on the second phase of the de- velopment scheme for Ho Man Tin- a barren and eroded area in the centre of Kowloon Peninsula.

The scheme. which began late in 1962. is expected to take at least five years to complete. It will provide

some 110 acres of much-needed land for the construction of private build. ings, schools and low-cost housing

estates.

The next phase of the project in- volves the formation of 40.85 acres of land. together with roads and drainage facilities. Site formation work is expected to start in the dry season in September and take about 18 months to complete.

Site formation will cost about $6.25 million. exclusive of water supply installations. On completion. 28.78 acres of land will be available for medium density housing, another 6.46

for schools and open spaces and 5.61 acres for roads and

acres

drainage.

The first sites for residential use are expected to be made available for sale in about one and a half years time.

The first phase of the development work. which started towards the end of 1962. is due for completion at the end of this year.

It involves the formation of about 20 acres of land for medium density residential purposes

15.6 acres on

the hill adjacent to Perth Street and 44 acres on Hok Yuen Hill, to the east of Chatham Road.

Arch bridge

A new road from Chatham Road to Nairn Road. as well as an arch bridge over Chatham Road. are also included in this phase of the de- velopment work.

The new road has been formed. It has a four-lane carriageway and ex- tends about 5.200 feet on the hill to link Pui Ching Road with Hok Yuen

About 80 per cent of the work on levelling Hok Yuen Hill has already been completed with a view to pro- viding seven acres of usable land 44 acres of this total will be for re- sidential purposes. The entire site formation will take another three months to complete.
