one of the tallest buildings in the Western distruct is occupied the ground first and second floors by a branch of the Bangkok Bank Limited which shift- ed from cramped quarters in a building in a nearby side street. The other floors are occupied by individual offices.
The 15 storey, reinforced frame building is on a very deep and nar row site 45 feet by nearly 200 feet. The rear half of the site is only about 15 feet wide far too slender to carry a structure of any height. It rises to only first floor level and houses the vault for the bank. The walls, roof and floor of the vault are built of 12 inch reinforced concrete.
An interesting feature of the build- ing are the protruding cement cano- pies set into each window. These originally were meant to carry air- conditioners for each office as well as However, the provide a sunscreen. owner, Mr. N. K. Wong, decided at a late stage to install central air-con- ditioning on the roof and so the canopies remain only as decorative
sunscreens.
Construction of the building, apart from piling. took 16 months and was completed towards the end of last year. The cost of the 570.000 cubic foot structure, including two lifts and piling. was $1.700.000 or about $3 a cubic foot.

general contractor for the project was the Dah Hing Construc- tion Co. Sub-contractors and sup- pliers included.
