The Tengku took a keen personal interest in the design of the mosque. and was present at its opening in August last year by the Yang di- Pertuan Agong. The mosque, which took about a year to complete. was designed by Dato Y.T. Lee, one of Kuala Lumpur's leading architects. who attempted. in his plans, a com- plete break with the heavily Moorish motif which predominates in the older Malaysian mosques. He suc ceeded in preserving the basic fea- tures of traditional Muslim architer- ture while giving the whole a force- ful. uncluttered appearance.
