Architects' model shows the intended Home
UNEVEN SITE WAS MAJOR PROBLEM IN HONG KONG HOME FOR AGED
N his design for a Home for the Aged, now being erected for the Little Sisters of the Poor at Deep- water Bay, Hong Kong, the major problem the architect had to solve was occasioned by the extremely uneven nature of the 4 acre site.
Economy was a major factor. Yet in some places it was necessary to cut down the site as much as 30 feet, and in others filling-in was required. At the same time it was necessary to secure a formation suited to the needs of old people.

For this reason the site was develop- in three terraces.
On the lowest level there is the entrance terrace which houses the garage, and the receiving house. which is now complete.
A centre terrace of three-storeys- the main one will contain the major male and female dormitories, chapel, laundry, kitchen and utility areas. There are to be two Otis two-
bed/passenger lifts for the con- venience of the inmates.
The upper terrace will be the three-storey Mother House for the Sisters. The surrounding land will

be used for growing vegetables. Construction of this stage is well advanced and should be completed by August.
The Home is designed to accom- modate 500 to 600 and. except for the chapel site, is on land granted by the Government.

The architect is Mr. Ng Ping King and the main contractor Lun Sang & Co. Ltd.
PLANNING the construction of
six clinics and maternity centres for the Hong Kong Government will begin soon.
In addition, a Combined Vaccine Institute is to be built at Castle Peak and extensions and alterations to Queen Mary Hospital will include an operating theatre block, quarters and professional suites.
The clinics and maternity centres are the Kowloon City Maternity and Child Health Centre, Kam Tin Clinic and Maternity Home. Shatin Clinic and Materity Home. Tsun Wan Out- Patients Clinic, Yuen Long Clinic. and Yaumati Health Centre at Public Square Street.
Under consideration are Aplichau Kaifong Maternity Centre, Chai Wan Maternity and Child Health Centre. Hongkong Mental Health Centre. Shaukiwan Hospital, New Lai Chi Kok Hospital, Wan Tau Hom Clinic and Maternity Home, Wong Tai Sin Clinic, Castle Peak Maternity Home, out-patients clinic at St. John's Hospital on Cheung Chau Island. Mental Defective Home and the re-development of the Saiyingpun Hospital site.
