This is another Government pri- mary school, the planning of which has been entrusted by Government to private architects because of the pres- sure of work in the Architectural Office of the Public Works Depart- ment.

It is a school which more or less follows the conventional pattern laid down by the Education Department, in that there is a covered playground area which also does duty as an as- sembly hall, on what would normal- ly be the ground floor, the office and common-room floor, and the upper floors of standard size classrooms with one larger handicraft's room per floor.

Where the planning of the school differs is in the awkwardness of the site, which is approximately 40 feet above Eastern Hospital Road level with a sheer drop on that side. Since Government wanted the main en- trance to face this side, the architect's problem was to provide for a con- venient and not too steep entrance way and, at the same time, to keep the site formation work at a minimum. He has accomplished this by provid- ing a sloping approach road leading
