The desire of the Chinese to acquire an education and to remove the stigma of illiteracy as a national characteristic has resulted in a rapidly increasing num- ber of educational institutions being founded throughout China. The hostilities in the interior, however, have driven Chinese educationalists to the safer outports, and Hong Kong has become a very important educational centre for Chinese students.
There are numerous elementary and primary schools housed in converted Chinese tenement buildings through- out the Colony, but as these institutions expand the desire for more suitable accommodation grows. Unfortunately, with limited funds very few can realise their ambition. Munsang College, however, is one of those institu-
tions which have succeeded, mainly through the efforts of their energetic Principal and sympathetic Board, in acquiring their own school premises.
Situated at the head of Grampian Road, it occupies an extensive area upon which there is room for any additions which future development may necessitate.
The building itself is a substantial one with stone walls and Chinese tile roof, and, in spite of the limita- tions which available funds imposed, includes ten class- rooms in two wings on either side of the large Assembly Hall, while the Offices and Waiting Room are enclosed in the Vestibule at the Main entrance to the building.
The Architect is J. Caer Clark, Esq., and the Con- tractors, Messrs. Chung Yiu Kee.
