ARCHITECTURAL OFFICE
Work was continued on the West Wing of the Central Government Offices. Piling was completed for Stage II of the Castle Peak Hospital, and work on the structural drawings and bills of quantities is prac- tically finished. Also approaching comple- tion at the end of June were drawings for
the new type "H" Resettlement building.
Site formation at Tai Wan Hill was completed and construction of the final block began. The site formation contract for Jordan Valley was let and work com- menced. The Kun Tong drainage office contract was let and a site formation con- tract was being prepared. The site forma- tion contract at Chai Wan was let and a piling contract gazetted for the hous- ing and factory. At Lo Fu Ngam Exten- sion a contract was let for test probes to check the quantity of rock on the site. Sketch plans were prepared for Tung Tau, but the site survey was obstructed by building on the area. Planning and dis- cussions continued on Wong Tai Sin III. Sketch plans were prepared for two
additional "I" blocks with a hawker mar- ket between them at Shek Kip Mei, and also for Cheung Sha Wan flatted factory No. 2 and for two additional "H" blocks at Li Cheng Uk.
Piling began for the Kowloon Hospital Sisters' and Nurses' quarters and architec- tural, structural and electrical drawings, and bills of quantities were nearing com- pletion. In regard to the Hospital itself, a small site formation contract was let, while а contract for the diversion of King's Park approach road was let by the Roads Office. Culverting of the nullah and re-laying of water mains was nearly finished. Progress was made with the working drawings. It was decided that a scheme for new operating theatres at the existing Kowloon Hospital should proceed immediately and that the Architects work- ing on the new Kowloon Hospital should prepare the drawings. It is therefore prob- able that the New Kowloon Hospital will be delayed, despite a small increase architectural staff in the section.
