NORTHAMPTON FIRM WINS BIG CONTRACT FOR LIFTS
A contract worth £329.600 has been won by the Express Lift Co., Ltd. of Abbey Works, Northampton, it was announced in December of last year.
It is believed this is the largest lift order ever placed in Great Britain, both as regards the number of lifts involved and the aggregate value.
The order for 150 lifts for residen- tial flats being built in the London area has been placed by the London County Council, and was secured by the Express Lift Co. in the face of severe competition from many other lift manufacturers.
The Express Lift Co., which has now received orders for well over 1,000 lifts of this type for municipal authorities in England and overseas. has previously had from the L.C.C. three bulk orders for 100 lifts each. These lifts have a carrying capacity of 1,200 lbs. (8 persons) and are push button-controlled by the passengers themselves. The cars are specially designed for the easy passage of perambulators and the car door and landing doors electrically open and close.
