A special rapid cooling fluid steri- lizer with an intense capacity of about 32 cubic feet is also includ- ed together with various other smaller electrical sterilizers.

There is a small outpatients section from which patients being discharged can collect the medicines ordered for them.

There is also an entirely separate pharmacy to serve children only at the children's reception area on the ground floor of the West wing. Associated with this is the milk formula preparation laboratory which includes a pass through autoclave to serve the children's wards.

LAUNDRY

Originally the laundry was design- ed for 50.000 lbs per week to meet the demands of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital alone.

However after site construction work had started it became necessary to redesign it to give a maximum capacity of 250,000 lbs per week so as to handle all medical laundry in the colony. This of course necessitat- ed some big planning changes in the area. However by operating double shift and insisting on the largest automatic labour saving equipment from world wide tenderers. an adequate compromise. if not per. fect solution was found.

The following are some of the special items included in this sub-

Two automatic self emptying washers each capable of deal- ing with 800 lbs (dry) of washing at one filling. (Space has also been reserved for a third one later if required). Two 54 inch diameter spin dryers which rotate at 750 revolutions per minute each having a loading capacity of 400 lbs (dry).
