and this will provide cross ventilation in the rooms served from internal corridors. High level window tract fans are fitted in such rooms as kitchens, lavatories and sluices.
Operating Theatres

The changing room corridors are fully airconditioned to include sum- mer cooling with a standard 70 per cent recirculated air system.
In order to cut down the risk of cross infection and anaesthetic gas explosions in the sterile areas in and around the operating theatres. no recirculated air is used either in cooling or heating.
The airconditioning of each main or minor theatre is provided by in- dividual mixing chambers, which are supplied by cool and warm air ducts from the central floor A/C cabinet. The condition in each room is in- dividually controlled by room ther- mostats and humidistats.
As outside fresh air is introduced continuously into the rooms, all the theatres are kept constantly under

positive pressure and the air is forced outwards through the sink rooms or above false ceilings into the sterilizer service ducts.
In addition to the standard type of nylon air filters for the removal of normal dust in the air introduced, special "Kompak" absolute filters, which are 99.9 per cent effective down to five microns, are also fitted.
Special Departments
The airconditioning systems for cach special medical department, such as Pathology, C.S.S.D., Phar- macy, Physiotherapy and Radiology, are carefully designed to suit the detailed requirements of the special medical equipment installed in them. Temperatures and humidity of 80°F. and 68°F. and 50 per cent are generally maintained in summer and winter respectively.
Extract Ventilation
Special high level extraction sys- tems are installed where cooling is not provided for such areas as the

main kitchen and laundry. The sys- tems are designed to produce 35 and 25 air changes per hour respectively
in these two areas.
The cooking fumes in the kitchen are extracted through canopies with special grease filters above the cook- ing area. The extracted air is dis- charged through through the main exhaust duct to the atmosphere at the roof level of the West tower, which is about 150 feet above the kitchen.
Due to the high rate of air chan- ges required in the laundry, special large capacity inlet fans are cm- ployed.
The control of extract fans is nor mally interlocked with the switches of the supply air systems.
Special ducted extract systems are also provided for the hot sluice room, fume cupboards and items like auto- matic film processing units etc.
