ORDNANCE DEPOT, KAI TAK

THIS project, to house a

new

Ordnance Depot in Hong Kong with its own living accommodation, is being built on reclaimed land at Kai Tak Kowloon. The nature of the subsoil has necessitated exten- sive piling which is in progress at the moment.

The storage buildings are in 3-

construction,

storey

each floor

having an area of 70,000 square feet. The single soldiers will be housed in a 10-storey high barrack block.

A swimming pool already exis- ted on the site and is being retained and incorporated in the Junior Ranks Club area.

The total cost of the scheme is expected to be $16,000.000.

The War Office Works

Group in Hong Kong is a branch of the War Office

Directorate General of

Works in London and is responsible for the design. of projects to be built

in Hong Kong.

Two Projects designed by the Group and one to be built in Hong Kong but designed at the War Office

are illustrated in this article.
