The hotel operated by Intercon- tinental Hotels Corporation, is sited at the corner of Orchard and Cus- caden Roads, close to shopping and entertainment centres. three miles from the business centre of the city and near other leading hotels.

It has 200 guests rooms with in- dividual baths attached and private balconies.

Modern concepts of international. style hotel planning and equipment. together with all amenities from over the world were studied before the local plans were set on paper.

The main hotel is seven storeys in height. planned with a central spine corridor and letting rooms served by two high-speed passenger elevators. A third elevator (service lift) is located at the rear of the main block and adjacent to the kitchens and service ancillaries.

All construction is of reinforced concrete columas, beams and slabs and, owing to the nature of the soil, reinforced concrete and timber bakau piling were necessary to carry the carry the foundation loads.

Each guest room has an attached bath and private balcony. Specially designed furniture for all guest rooms and public areas were evolved for the hotel, and all floors will have wall-to-wall carpeting.

Baths have modern sanitary fit- ments. central hot-water supply and special high-pressure water supply from storage tanks located on the roof level.

Guest rooms are fully air-condi- tioned, through a central plant using chilled water reticulation and in- dividual thermostatic-controlled fan coil units.

A five-line public address-radio- phonograph music system is piped to specially-designed speakers in each guest room. Provision is also allow- ed for television sets, each set being connected to a community television aerial on the roof. Telephones are also provided for each guest room.

The ground or lobby floor com- prises the administrative section, a shopping arcade, cocktail lounge and coffee shop: a separate entrance leads to the restaurant (seating capacity 180 persons, with raised portion for private dining), and also to the "social core grouped around a swimming pool enclosed by a two- storey cabana block.
