balance flood flows from these sources with the demands of the treatment work. It will thus be possible by regulation to reduce overflows from Jubilee Reservoir.

The Lower Shing Mun Dam will be of earth and rock construction and will be 180 feet in height.

The Sha Tin treatment works will have a capacity for Stages I and II of about 80 million gallons per day. It is here that the untreated water is purified.

The treatment works will also house the main control room for the Plover Cove Water Scheme. This will be the nerve centre for the whole Scheme, with the outlying pumping stations being operated from it by remote control.

The Lion Rock Tunnel, through which the treated water will be piped to Kowloon, will be constructed of sufficient diameter to provide a two- lane motor road with the water mains underneath. For this reason. exten- sive ventilation apparatus will require to be installed.
