UITE apart from its striking

position on the hill top above Repulse Bay Road, Hong Kong, The Ridge, a double apartment block designed by Mr. C.C. Cheng, is not- able for two constructional features.

It is the first residential building in the Colony to use high tensile steel for reinforcement in its structure, and it is the first residential building to use aluminium for curtain walling, as well as for many other decorative and functional purposes, including window trames and fittings.

Chief reason for the use of high tensile steel bars in the reinforced concrete construction of the two blocks of the Ridge is the high degree of wind pressure that the high buildings will have to be planned to resist because of their exposed position overlooking both the south and north sides of the Island. the ground floor level being
