Members of Jardine's Lookout Residents' Association, Hong Kong, have acquired fine premises where they can put into practice their commendable aim of what might be termed "neighbourhood together-

ness.

About 70 families now live in this pleasant area, with its splendid harbour views and bracing elevation, and the Club House has been designed by Wong & Ng Associates as a meeting place for the Residents Association.

It is situated at No. 2 Creasy Road, on a site which required a filling of between 30 and 40 ft. deep on an old stream course. Now water is diverted by an

open channel along the south and west of the site. The piling required was done by Kee Yip Construction Co.

Although initially no sporting facilities other than a a children's playground had to be provided. portion of the recreation ground has been reserved for two tennis courts. In accordance with the lease condition, there is a car park for 20. This number is sufficient since members living nearby seldom drive their cars to the Club. A bar

and kitchen are equipped for serv ing light refreshments.

The club house is a single storey R. C. structure, with 4 in. R. C. panels walls employed on the east elevation to afford privacy. The panels are suspended from the ground to heighten the feeling of unbroken spaciousness and at the same time improve ventilation.

H-shaped columns on the exterior are non-structural. Cast-iron pipes

of 3 in. diameter which drain the roof lead down between two fins of the H columns. A device for repair is provided. The columns are paint- ed black and white to express light- ness, since they are non-structural and each is emphasised by a spot- light.

Unity, in keeping with the spirit of the Club, has been aimed for in the architectural design. A low stone wall concealing the bar coun- ter from the immediate entrance. together with teak panelling, and mustard coloured R.C. panels in the interior, combine to give a warm and friendly welcome to visitors.

The garden has been planted with 50 bushes of Bauhinia obtained from the Forestry Department.

Mr. S. P. Wong, well-known businessman, who is chairman of the Jardine Lookout Residents' As- sociation, estimates there are be- tween 12 and 15 nationalities now represented among the residents, including Chinese, British, Ameri- can, Indian, Swedish, Thai, Indo- nesian and Vietnamese.

The Association was formed six years ago and before the club house was finished members met each month at one another's houses always rounding out the occasion with a Chinese dinner.

Among the 65 houses now on the "Lookout" the oldest ones have only been up about 8 or 9 years. The residences, all in garden settings. cover between 10,000 and 18.000 sq.ft. and the values range from $100,000 to $350.000.

The area

was developed by the Hong Kong Home Building and Investment Co. Ltd., of which Mr. C.E. Terry is chairman and Mr. S.P. Wong, a director. Among Mr. Wong's other business interests. he is advisor to the Bank of Tokyo in Hong Kong.
