CELLOCRETE TEST

On April 11th, 1957 the Cellocrete Building Service Ltd. carried out a fire test оп their Cellocrete wood wool slabs which are manufactured in Hong Kong. They built two stairways, one of timber simulating the staircase construction in old Chinese tenements, lined on the underside with 1 inch Cellocrete boards plastered inch thick on the exposed sur- faces. In the second staircase, the treads and risers were made entirely of inch Cellocrete slabs similar.y plastered.

Under these stairways a large quantity of dry wood well soaked in kerosene were set alight and kept going for a period of half an hour. At the expiration of this period, the staircases were not affected by the fire burning underneath, or showed any sign of instability or collapse even when loaded with two gunny bags of sand and four bags of cement, making a superimpos- ed load of 9 cwt.

The most significant fact observed was that immediately the fire took hold the cement plaster over the Cellocrete slabs commenced to split, crack, and fly off in There is no doubt that the test proved Mr. W. J. Gorman, B.E.M., Chief a series of small explosions. The Cellocrete that the Cellocrete slabs were an efficient Officer, Mr. C.W. Brand, Deputy Chief slabs were unaffected by the fire, and after resistant to fire but, in our opinion, the Officer
