Approximately 70% of each of ground, mezzanine and first floors will be occupied by the Department Store sales areas, together with about 40% of the
second floor.
The next four floors are generally simi'ar in layout, each containing about 1,800 square feet of rentable office space. Th penthouse will be occupied by common and dining rooms for the staff of the Department Store.
Construction is conventional. The in- ternal Store staircase is supported by a central reinforced concrete beam with teak treads cantilevered out on either side; the balustrade is very colourful being made of “Formica' pane's supported in bronze frames.
The dominating feature of the front elevation is the large panel at the first floor level, immediately over the canopy, containing the name of the Store. This consists of а background in dark green terra-cotta with stainless steel lettering Above this the panels between the win- dows are of terra-cotta in various shades of buff, the vertical fins being finished with Shanghai plaster. The columns on each side of the main entrance are faced with red-grained black marble, while the ground and mezzanine floor division is of neutral tinted glass panels. The vertical sign in the north-west corner of the build- ing consists of panels in mosaic with relief lettering in a contrasting colour.
