Boy Scouts Headquarters

Local Boy Scouts are getting in- creasingly excited as their new head- quarters building in Kowloon is rapid- ly reaching completion. When the structure is finally opened, they will surely be immensely proud of it, not only because it will be the first time they have had a permanent head- quarters in the Colony, but also because it will be one of the most modern Scouts' headquarters in the world.

Situated as it is on a site in Cox's Road in Kowloon, opposite to King's Park, it will be almost exactly in the topographical centre of the Colony, and so will be most conveniently located for the use of the majority of the Scouts residing all over the Island, in Kowloon and in the New Territories.

The new headquarters will be a place, designed for the specific pur- pose of providing for the administra- tion, training and recruitment of the Colony's expanding Scout population. The Scouts will be able to meet in ideal conditions supervision.

PROPOSED HONG KONG BOY SCOUT HEADQUARTERS

The building, comprising two storeys and a basement, will present a hand- some appearance with the main building and wings flanking a lawn, which will provide facilities for out- door training.

On the ground floor, there will be a large assembly hall with a gallery and a fully equipped stage, a roomy and under expert canteen with soda fountain served by a kitchen in the basement, a fine

modern gymnasium with locker rooms

showers, and

reception room, lounge, Scout shop, offices and an apartment.

The first floor will contain work- shops, a lecture room, a library, a trophy room and quarters.

The building was designed by Mr. G.D. Su, and is expected to be com- pleted in February.
