A new Central Fire Station is to be built in Kowloon at the junction of Prince Edward Road and Tong Mi Road. Construction will start towards the end of March and it is hoped the new building will be com- pleted by the end of this year. Tenders for this work were called for in to-day's gazette. 24th February
An application, under the Land- lord and Tenant Ordinance, led to the disclosure that the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank plan to erect an eight-storey building at the corner of Argyle Street and Nathan Road to house the Mongkok branch of the bank, and to provide office accom- modation.

The Directors of Humphreys Estate and Finance Company an- nounce that they will recommend at the forthcoming ordinary yearly meeting of shareholders to be held
on March 21 next, the payment of a dividend of $1.20 (free of tax).
At a meeting of the Directors of The Hongkong Land Investment & Agency Co., Ltd. it was decided to recommend a Final Dividend for 1951 of $2.00 per share, less Tax, making a total of $4.00 per share, less Tax, for the year. 29th February
The Director of Medical and Health Services, the Hon Dr. K. C. Yeo, will lay the foundation stone for the new nurses quarters at the Tung Wah Eastern Hospital to-day at 4 p.m.
The Government has agreed to make an interest-free loan of $2,500,000 to the Hongkong Anti- Tuberculosis Association for the purpose of building a new hospital of 150 to 200 beds for the treatment of Tuberculosis. 1st March
The Tung Wah Group of Hos- pitals recorded a notable event in its history yesterday when Dr. the Hon. K. C. Yeo, Director of Medical and Health Services, laid the founda- tion stone of the new quarters for the nursing staff of the Tung Wah Eastern Hospital.
The new Hunghom Market at Bulkeley Street will be ready for occupation on April 1, according to the Secretary of the Urban Council. 5th March
An Ordinance to remedy certain abuses resulting from the exclusion of new buildings and certain recons- tructed buildings from the operation of the Landlord and Tenant Ordin- ance, Chapter 255, was passed into law at a meeting of the Legislative Council to-day.

At the annual meeting of the Hong Kong Electric Company Limited it was announced that the site forma- tion for the workers' quarters is now completed and work on the erection of the first block of flats to house 100 families has commenced. 8th March
An enjoyable cocktail party was held to celebrate the opening of the big new service station in King's Road operated by Alex Ross and Co. Co. (China) Ltd. on premises belonging to the Asiatic Petroleum Company (South China) Ltd. 10th March

It was stated by the Hon. Director of Public Works to-day that Govern- ment intends, in the very near future, to call for tenders for the main work of the vast $40 million Tai Lam Chung Valley waterworks project.

Countess Mountbatten of Burma paid a visit to some of the squatter areas and described the conditions. as "appalling". However, she was pleased with the re-settlement areas she saw and felt sure that steady progress would continue to afford 'reasonably adequate" accommoda- tion for the refugees. 21st March

The Hong Kong Budget for 1952/53 was approved today, this includes expenditures for the Public Works Department and Public Works Recurrent and Non-Recurrent totalling just under seventy million dollars.

Local students of architecture had the rare opportunity of listening to two experts speaking on the subject in the hall of the British Council. One was Mr. Richard Neutra, noted American architect, and the other was Professor Gordon Brown of the Hong Kong University.
An informal visit by H. E. The Governor and Lady Grantham marked the completion of the first hundred flats by the Hong Kong Model Housing Society in North Point.

The formation of the Hong Kong Settlers Housing Corp., a new non- profit making housing society which will build brick and concrete houses of low cost for the resettlement of squatters was announced yesterday. 29th May
The new Grantham Training College which cost over a million Dollars to build was opened by H.E. Governor today.
