The house, which was designed by the Architect for his own use, is on a steeply sloping site near the top of the Sha-Tin Valley and commands a fine view down to Tide Cove and the Hunchbacks beyond. The valley below the house is forestry reserve and is planted with tung oil

trees which will provide a show of white blossom in the spring. At the bottom of the valley is a stream and a waterfall and across the valley a view of Lion Rock.

Originally part of the old Tai Po Road, the site is a 20 ft. wide level strip running round a shoulder at the side of the valley. This strip of road was abandoned when the new road was built through a deep cutting. Site formation was thus limited to a small amount of cutting at the end of the shoulder. The remainder of the strip forms the garden and here the old cutting was already well over- grown with creepers and wild flowering shrubs.

The house was placed at the end of the shoulder in order to take maximum advantage of the views. A garage and screen wall were built at the other end of the garden, adjoining the main road, and from here a path formed of precast paving slabs set in grass leads past a small swimming pool to the house.

The house consists of one bedroom, a large living room, part of which can be screened off to make a second bedroom, bathroom, hotroom and servants' quarters. Economy, the view and the necessity for a good through breeze conditioned the plan.
