The Association and the Brigade were previously housed in Tai Hang Road but the premises there proved inadequate to deal with present re- quirements. This centrally-situated new building, with its nine lecture. rooms, many offices, and spacious officers' mess, will greatly ease
the pressure on the accommodation at Tai Hang Road, which has now be- come Hongkong Island Area Brigade Headquarters.
The site of the new building was once occupied by the Garden Depart- ment. It slopes steeply and it was necessary to culvert the Albany nullah and fill in the part of the area which now serves as a carpark to the level of Macdonnell Road. On the Garden Road side, at upper ground level, it has been possible to utilize the higher part of the site to provide a garden with a grass plot and flowering shrubs behind the building.
